A long concrete staircase with no railing is a safety issue. Plain and simple. It might not feel urgent until someone slips, or until a family member with mobility challenges needs to use those steps every single day. That's usually when homeowners start thinking seriously about getting something done.
Here's what we were working with - a tall run of concrete steps leading up to the front entry of a home. The stairs themselves were solid, but there was nothing to hold onto. No support on the way up, nothing to grab on the way down. We built a full cedar railing system to run the entire length of the staircase, anchored securely and built to hold.
Cedar is our go-to for this kind of work. It handles outdoor conditions well, it's naturally resistant to moisture and decay, and it looks sharp next to just about any exterior. We cut and fit each piece to follow the angle of the stairs, keeping the spacing on the balusters consistent and the top rail smooth and comfortable to grip. Nothing sloppy, nothing rushed.
What we end up with on a job like this is a railing that actually feels solid when you put your weight on it. Not wobbly, not undersized - just built right. The fresh cedar also adds a clean, finished look that makes the whole entryway feel more put-together without changing anything structural about the steps themselves.
If your stairs are missing a railing or the one you have isn't cutting it anymore, this is exactly the kind of work we do. We build each one custom to fit the space, so nothing feels like an afterthought.
