Custom Cedar Fence Built for Privacy Without Blocking the View

A solid fence that blocks everything isn't always the answer. For this customer, the goal was clear - define the space, add security, and keep the garden feeling open and connected to the trees and greenery surrounding it. That's a balance that takes some real thought to get right.

Here's what we came up with: a two-part cedar fence design that pairs a solid lower picket section with a black wire panel framed in cedar on top. The lower half gives you the privacy and boundary you need at ground level. The upper half lets light pour through and keeps the view of the surrounding trees wide open. It's a practical design that looks sharp doing it.

Cedar was the right call for this build. It holds up well outdoors, takes on a warm, natural tone as it weathers, and pairs cleanly with the black wire panels - no clash, no fuss. The framing on each wire panel section is tight and consistent, which makes a big difference in how finished the whole thing looks from either side.
